Rachel Hawthorne, who also writes as Lorraine Heath and Jade Parker, live in Plano, Texas; with her husband.
She has always wanted to be a writer and has wrote other novels beside the ‘Dark Guardian’ series, including ‘Caribbean Cruising,’ ‘Island Girls (And Boys)’, ‘Love on the Lifts’, ‘The Boyfriend League’ and ‘Snowed In.’
Blurb: I see him and know what this turmoil inside of me means: He's the one. My forever.
Kayla is the nature lover, the all-American beauty who can't understand why she's so drawn to distant, brooding Lucas.
Adopted as a young child, she has no way of knowing that she's inherited a terrifying--and thrilling--gene that will change her life forever.
Lucas is dangerous, gorgeous . . . and a werewolf.
As leader of the Dark Guardians, shape-shifters who gather deep within the state park, he has sworn to protect his pack. But when Lucas finds his true soul mate, his love could put them all in harm's way.
As Lucas and Kayla struggle with their feelings for each other, a greater danger lurks: Humans have discovered the Dark Guardians and are planning their destruction. Kayla must choose between the life she knows and the love she feels certain is her destiny.

Moonlight is the first book in the ‘Dark Guardian’ Series.
The book begins with a Prologue, which uses the technique of foreshadowing. Hawthorne uses this to give us an indication of what is to come in the future. And as far as the laws of writing goes, this is an excellent and ingenious way to grasp your readers’ attention.
The books main protagonist – Main character – is Kayla. Our view point remains with her throughout the book. This helps us connect with her on a fundamental level and allows us to relate to her in almost every way.
The mystery in the novel is well crafted and although we already know Lucas is a werewolf just by having read the blurb, it doesn’t spoil the mystery and suspense as we read, in fact, I felt it helped build it.
We as readers know the truth, but we feel connected to Kayla; we are spotting things that would alert us to the fact something isn’t quite right and yet, because Kayla has no reason to suspect anything like this, we end up sitting on the edge of our seats, willing her to realise what is happening, and yet at the same time, we feel a tension in case she does learn the truth.
Although the romance isn’t overly baring, it does play with our heartstrings and has us willing for a happy ending with Lucas.
This book is an exceptional read and for new readers to paranormal romance or for teenage readers, I would openly recommend this book. In fact, I openly recommend this book to anyone who love Teen Fiction.
This book is Teen Fiction (12+)
